April 16th, 2010SNP LAN Party

So I just got out of an interview at Empire Life for an IT Auditor position that I am really hoping to get as I think it would really help me learn new things and I really hope I could help the company bring it’s self into the present for Information Technology  rather then the couple years behind like it is right now.

While I was having the interview with the manager of the Auditor group, we started talking about LAN parties and the he informed me that his Son has been doing LAN parties for a while now and will be holding another one on the last day in April. He asked me if I would not mind spreading the word around so that is what I am doing. I’m not doing it to suck up to try and get the position, but rather because I really like the reason why his Son is holding the LAN party. There is $25 entrance fee, but every dollar of that is going to the Children’s wing of the local Hotel Dieu in Kingston, Ontario. I think this is wonderful. Someone that not only does something they love, but they are doing it for  good cause. So far there some big name sponsors that have donated some great prizes to be won and some awesome swag.

It’s something too look in to. So if you are in or around the Kingston area on the 30th of April at 1900h (7:00pm) and want to spend 12 hours gaming, please head over to the SNP website and take a look at the details for the event. There are some important information to know before heading to the event as there may not be internet available at the venue. http://snplan.com/

I really hope you all check it out. Sadly I wont be able to make it because I will be working nights that night and wont be able to get away with such short notice.

August 30th, 2007My switch to the Dark side

Some of you may or may not already know, I have switched to the “dark side” of computing. I purchased myself a black MacBook at the beginning of July and loved every minute of it. There are so many things that it does natively that windows needs smarter people to program for it. Yes I installed Windows on it because I am going to be using it for school as well and I need the application I use at school on there, but I have not used Windows on my Mac for the past 4 weeks.

Yes I know it does not have all the software out there that Windows does, and I know it does not have many games built for a Mac OS, but I am not going to be playing games on my Mac, that’s what I have my tweaked out PC for. I am loving the battery life on it as I am able to watch an entire movie (approx. 1h 45m long) with full backlight and still have another hour and a half to do what I want with it.

It’s a lot smaller then my last laptop, but I wanted that. I don’t need large screens on a laptop because they take p too much battery power and are to large to fit into my laptop backpack. I have yet to find a down side to using my Mac and I am learning more and more as I go along. Having to re-learn all the short cut keys and then some to make navigating around on it fast has been challenging, but it’s been a welcome challenge since I have learned most of the Windows short cuts.

The nice thing too is that I can still transfer files to and from my PC using either my Mac or my PC as the host. They make everything so nice an easy to find that even for the very novice at computer use in general can navigate and do some really interesting things with it.

I can’t wait till leopard come out as a few months down the road, and once I hear of a good review from everyone, including my cousin, I will be purchasing a legal copy and upgrading my OS on my MacBook.
